About Friendly Care

A family business, built one carefully designed home at a time.

We've been in the care industry for over 25 years and operating care homes for 20 of them. Today the family runs six homes across four counties — but the operating instinct hasn't changed since the first one.

The founding story

From designing care homes to running them.

Friendly Care grew from its architectural roots as Director Michael Goss took a calculated leap of faith and determination from designing care homes to building and operating them. This key element in our formation has continued and developed over the years to provide interesting and individually designed care homes that integrate modern facilities within a homely atmosphere. Our first care home was The Friendly Inn in Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham — a closed-down public house that was subsequently burnt down. Following a careful and sympathetic conversion the former pub was given a new lease of life and has provided a vital community service for over 25 years. Aptly taking our name from that of the original pub, Friendly Care was formed. The expansion of Friendly Care then began with the addition of Michael's sons to form the family business that operates today. Our aim ever since has been to put our residents at the heart of everything we do — to provide our services within a safe and homely environment similar to that of a caring relative or friend.

That instinct — to use the architecture itself as part of the care — runs through everything we do. Period sash windows let in the afternoon light at Nethermoor. The Friendly Inn's sensory room sits where the public bar used to be. Wood Green's courtyard was added so every new ground-floor room could open directly onto it.

Our promise

Three things we hold to.

Independence first

Residents are encouraged to maintain their independence within a supervised environment. Help arrives quietly, when it's wanted.

Privacy and dignity

Whether en-suite living, mealtimes, or end-of-life support — the small things are how we keep dignity intact.

Continuity

We're a family business. The names you meet today will likely still be running these homes a decade on.

CQC & regulation

Regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

Friendly Care is a CQC-regulated provider trading as Nethermoor House Limited. Each individual home is also separately registered. You can review our register entry, inspection history and ratings directly with the regulator.

Visiting · Admissions

Come and see one of our homes — bring your questions, and a relative if you can.

The best way to know whether a home is right is to walk through it on a normal weekday. No appointment is required, but a phone call ahead means we'll have the right manager to meet you.
